If you add up all the beaches—large and small—on this Canary Island, the total exceeds 100. But which ones are the absolute best for soaking up the sun? We went exploring to find out.
Grandes Playas de Corralejo
The name gives it away: this is one of Fuerteventura’s largest beaches, stretching for several kilometers. What’s more, this beach—located near the popular resort town of Corralejo and actually made up of several smaller stretches of sand—is also one of the island’s most beautiful.
Its location plays a major role in this appeal. The beach borders the Dunas de Corralejo. These dunes—part of the Corralejo Natural Park—are perfect for a long walk at the start or end of the day (when it’s a bit cooler). Are you up for the challenge of climbing the towering sand dunes?
Beyond its setting, the beach offers plenty of amenities. There are various water sports options, as well as several restaurants and *chiringuitos*. Curious about *chiringuitos*? These are typical Spanish beach bars that usually serve sangria, cocktails, fish, and tapas.
Playa del Castillo
Fuerteventura has a volcanic history, but that doesn’t mean you’ll only find black lava beaches there. Far from it. Take Playa del Castillo in the resort town of Caleta de Fuste, for example.
The beach is shaped like a semicircle, providing shelter and calm waters. This makes it ideal for families with young children. Sunbeds and parasols are available for rent, and there is plenty of parking. The nearby marina also offers opportunities for water sports enthusiasts.
Another highlight: the Castillo de San Buenaventura stands right at the edge of the beach. From this fort—officially designated cultural heritage—you have a beautiful view of the beach.
Playa de Morro Jable
If you travel to the south of Fuerteventura, you will come across various seaside resorts, including Morro Jable. The resort boasts several beaches, including the main beach of the same name. Stretching for several kilometers, it is the perfect spot for a day of ultimate relaxation or a long walk.
Along the way, you will encounter various *chiringuitos* (beach bars). Halfway along the beach stands the lighthouse, which serves as a white beacon of light—as it once did for passing ships—in the evening.
Another great feature is the promenade running alongside the beach; stretching about 4 km, it is lined with restaurants and bars. You can easily step off your sunbed to grab a drink or a bite to eat.
Playa de El Hierro
When it comes to Instagrammable beaches, Playa de El Hierro is perhaps the best example. This beach is nicknamed "Popcorn Beach," and for good reason.
The millions of *algas calcáreas*—or small calcareous algae—bear a striking resemblance to popcorn. They are scattered across an area stretching 850 meters in length and approximately 75 meters in width.
As Insta-worthy as they may be, this isn't the kind of beach where you simply spread out a towel; lying on them is simply not very comfortable. And please don't take a handful home with you—as many tourists do—but leave nature where it belongs.

El Cotillo is a small town with a big beach. Playa de la Concha lies just north of the town center and stretches for several kilometers. Time to relax!
Up for an afternoon of surfing? Costa Calma Beach (Playa Costa Calma) is the ultimate hotspot for windsurfing enthusiasts; the world championships are even held here annually. Not an expert yet? You’ll find a surf school right on the beach.
Playa de Esquinzo Butihondo stretches for several kilometers and includes a designated nudist area. There is plenty of parking, and all the amenities for a totally relaxing day—such as sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, and places to grab a bite or a drink—are available.
One of Fuerteventura’s most popular family beaches is La Guirra, located on the east side of the island. The sea is calm, allowing children to play safely in the surf under supervision. The white sand is perfect for building amazing sandcastles.
